Using an Extension for MFA

To successfully use a Multi-factor Authentication browser extension, watch the following video or follow the step-by-step instructions.

Click here to watch the video on YouTube.

1. Search for an Authenticator

Symphony supports any time-based authenticator application. It is recommended to use the Google Authenticator Extension for Chrome or 2FA for Edge.

2. Install the Application

Download and install the chosen authenticator extension from the browser’s extension store.

3. Configure the Multi-Factor Authentication

During Symphony registration, open the authenticator application and follow the prompts to scan a QR code or manually enter a setup key.

  1. Select the QR code extension from the browser.

  2. Use the Scan option.

  3. Drag the frame over the QR code displayed on the screen (ee Figure 1).

  4. A success message will appear once the QR code is captured.

To manually enter the setup key:

  1. Select the plus icon in Google Authenticator to add an account during registration.
  2. Enter the secret key that appears above the QR code.
Note: The required account name or issuer details can be anything.
Usually, this is the site name or email address used to register.

4. Validate the Multi-Factor Authentication Configuration

After completing the setup:

  1. Copy the one-time passcode generated by the authenticator.

  2. Paste the six-digit code into the field provided in Symphony to complete registration.

Users with multiple Symphony accounts should rename the authentication codes to reflect the specific contract vehicle. A unique code for each Symphony website is required.
